Learning Chinese………
We were in one of my Mother-in-law’s favorite restaurants in San Francisco and Mom was quite friendly with the waitress. I wanted to thank the waitress in Chinese and Joseph told me that thank you is “she she” (short “e” like eh). Ok, so my big moment comes and I smile sweetly and say “shi shi”. The waitress stared at me kind of weird. I repeated it…still a confused look on everyone’s face including Mom and my brother-in-law John. Joseph looked up at her and said “She’s trying to say thank you” and Mom, John and the waitress burst out laughing (Joseph was trying hard not to laugh). Instead of saying thank you I had said pee-pee……………….Man, you sure don’t want to go there again!!
Sooooooo, the next time you are flying Oriental Air to Hong Kong, make sure you get the thank you word right or you will be escorted to the bathroom!
